Dr Arun Sugumaran joins Kyocera Hardcoatings Technologies Europe

Kyocera Hardcoating Technologies Europe has appointed Dr Arunprabhu Sugumaran PhD as Hardcoating Technologies Lead Engineer in March 2026, further strengthening its advanced manufacturing and R&D capability during a key phase of growth across the UK and wider European market.
Arun brings specialist expertise in thin film physical vapour deposition (PVD), including High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS) and DC magnetron sputtering. He joins the business following doctoral research at the Materials and Engineering Research Institute, Sheffield Hallam University, where he developed advanced nanostructured PVD coatings for orthopaedic knee replacement joints using industrial-scale HiPIMS technology.
His experience spans the development of high-performance monolithic and multilayer coatings delivering exceptional wear, corrosion and oxidation resistance for applications ranging from cutting tools to biomedical implants.
In his new role, Arun will provide operational leadership within the coating department while driving research and development to enhance coating performance across demanding industrial sectors.
The appointment comes as Kyocera Hardcoating Technologies Europe progresses its relocation to its new European Headquarters in Fradley. The facility houses advanced HiPIMS capability, enabling ultra-dense, high-adhesion coatings designed to maximise tool life, reduce downtime and support high-speed machining performance.
